Search Monmouth County Inmate Records

Monmouth County inmate records track people held in the county jail in Freehold. The Sheriff's Office runs the jail and posts a public roster, so you can search for Monmouth County inmates by name from any web browser. The roster is meant for current custody, not for state prison or federal cases, which use other tools. A Monmouth County inmate search shows who is booked, the charging agency, and the listed charges. Knowing which system to use saves time, since county jail, state prison, and federal custody are kept apart. The sections below explain the roster, the jail, and the rules for visits and money.

Monmouth County Jail Roster Overview

Inmate records in Monmouth County come from the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff runs the Corrections Division, which operates the county jail and posts the public inmate search online. The Sheriff is Shaun Golden. The roster is meant to show who is in custody right now, and the Sheriff says the data is updated on a regular basis to keep it current, complete, and accurate. So the list you see reflects active bookings, not a full history of past stays.

The Sheriff also posts a warning with the search. Misuse of the information to threaten, harass, or intimidate any person may lead to criminal prosecution or civil liability. In short, the tool is for lookups, not for targeting people. The link below opens the Corrections Division page, which describes the jail and its role in the county justice system.

The county roster does not cover every kind of inmate. It will not show people held in a New Jersey state prison, in federal custody, or in another county. State prison custody is searched through the Department of Corrections. Federal custody uses the Bureau of Prisons locator. The roster also leaves out records that are sealed, juvenile, or otherwise closed by law.

Here is a look at the Sheriff Corrections Division page, which sets out the jail's mission and classification system.

How to Search Monmouth County Inmates

The Sheriff inmate search keeps things simple. You type a name, pick a charging agency if you want, and press search. Most people just use a last name. The form posts the request and brings back matching inmate rows, with charge details grouped under each name. The link below opens the official tool.

Use the Sheriff inmate search to look up a person held at the county jail. The steps below walk through a basic search.

  1. Open the Sheriff inmate search page on the Corrections Division site.
  2. Type the inmate's last name, and a first name if you know it, to narrow the list.
  3. Leave Charge Agency on the default "All Agencies," or pick an agency to filter results.
  4. Click the Search button to run the lookup.
  5. Review the inmate rows, then open a row to see the grouped charge details.

Read the Sheriff's public-service notice before you start. The data is offered as a public service and updated to stay current. Using it to threaten, harass, or intimidate a person may bring criminal or civil consequences. The screenshot below shows the inmate search form.

From that form, a name search returns the people in custody who match, along with their charges.

Monmouth County Inmate Search Fields

The public form uses only a few fields. There is a First Name box, a Last Name box, and a Charge Agency dropdown that defaults to "All Agencies." A Search button submits the lookup. The full list of agencies in the dropdown was not captured, but the default returns all of them. The table below lists each field.

Field LabelTypeRequiredNotes

This is a jail roster, not a court docket. For the cases behind the charges, use the state court tools, not the Sheriff's tool. The two systems hold different records.

What a Monmouth County Inmate Profile Shows

When you open a result, the roster groups charge rows under each inmate. The Sheriff did not publish a sample profile, and a real person's record should not be pulled at random just to show fields. So the list below describes the kinds of fields the public search is built to display, based on the form and the page layout, rather than a captured sample record.

FieldWhat It Shows
Inmate NameThe booked person's name, used as the row header.
Booking / Custody InfoCustody status tied to the current stay at the county jail.
Charge AgencyThe law enforcement agency that filed the charge.
ChargesThe offenses listed for the person, grouped in rows.
Charge DetailsAdded detail tied to each listed charge.

What you will not see matters too. The public roster does not show jail medical or mental health details, security flags, juvenile records, victim identifiers, or sealed cases. Those are kept out under privacy law, court rule, and safety rules. If a result looks off or out of date, confirm the status with the jail before you act on it.

Monmouth County Jail Facilities

The county jail is the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, known as MCCI, in Freehold. The Sheriff's Office runs it through the Corrections Division. MCCI serves as a central reception and processing center for both sentenced and unsentenced inmates. It has an occupancy rating of 1,328 inmates and ranks among the top ten largest county jails in the nation. The jail uses a classification system that assigns each inmate to minimum, medium, or maximum security housing. MCCI is accredited by the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The Sheriff's Office, which oversees the jail, has its main public safety complex on Kozloski Road. Both contact cards appear below.

MCCI also contracts with other agencies and jurisdictions to make the most of its bed space. The jail provides health care, meals, time out of cells, religious and educational programs, recreation, and weekly law library access. Attorney and law enforcement interview rooms are on site, along with contact and non-contact visiting under set limits.

Booking and Classification in Monmouth County

Booking is the first step after an arrest. A person arrested in the county is taken to MCCI or to a local police agency for processing. At the jail, staff book the person, run a medical screening, and start the classification review. The Sheriff's mission text calls MCCI the reception and processing center for both sentenced and unsentenced inmates. So the jail holds people waiting for court as well as those serving a county sentence.

Classification decides where a person is housed. Staff use an objective, comprehensive system to assign each inmate to minimum, medium, or maximum security housing. The review weighs the charge, history, and other risk factors. Housing is set up in pods, staffed by trained correctional officers. The goal is to keep the jail safe while meeting each inmate's basic needs.

Release can happen for several reasons. A person may be let go after posting bail, on release on recognizance, by a court order, at the end of a sentence, or through a transfer to another agency. Because release ties to court action, the timing is not always set in advance. If you need to confirm a release, the roster and the jail's main line are the place to start. For active warrants tied to a case, see the warrant records page.

Monmouth County Jail Visitation Rules

Visits at MCCI run on a registration and pre-approval system. There is no walk-up visiting. Every visitor must register for each visit, and registration happens on site at the visit hall during visitation hours. All visits must be pre-approved. The inmate schedules the visit, and once it is approved, the inmate must tell the visitors. Once a visit is set, it cannot be moved to another time slot that same day. Because hours can change, the Sheriff asks visitors to call for current details before coming in.

There are limits on who can visit and how. A visitor must be at least 18 and bring a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID. No more than two adults may visit at once. There is no cap on the number of children, as long as an adult or legal guardian comes with them. A parent or guardian visiting with a child must bring the child's original birth certificate. Each visitor may see one male and one female inmate per day, and each inmate is allowed only one visit per day. Late visitors are turned away.

All visitors entering the building are run for warrants. If a visitor has an outstanding warrant, they can be detained. Nothing may be passed to or from the inmate, and visitors cannot leave the visit hall until the visit is over. Several items are banned from the visit hall. The list below covers the contraband the Sheriff names.

  • Cell phones
  • Cigarettes, lighters, and matches
  • Food and drinks
  • Bags
  • Weapons

The table below sums up the key visitation rules. For the current schedule, call the jail at the visit line.

Money and Commissary for Monmouth County Inmates

There are set ways to send money to a person at MCCI. A money order or certified check made out to the inmate or detainee can be brought to visits during regular hours, and to booking at all other times. No other forms of payment are accepted in that setting. So cash and personal checks do not work for in-person drop-off.

For card payments, the jail uses an online vendor. Credit-card payments can be sent through ConnectNetwork.com. That gives families a way to add funds without coming to the jail. Always confirm the inmate's name and any ID the vendor asks for before you send money, so the funds reach the right person.

Release Notifications and Other Custody Searches

If the roster does not show the person you are looking for, they may be in another system. The county roster only covers current MCCI custody. For release alerts and other custody, several official tools fill the gap. VINELink lets victims and the public register for notice when an offender's custody status changes. For state prison custody, the New Jersey Department of Corrections runs an offender search. For parole, the State Parole Board posts an offender search that also links the state prison and sex offender tools.

If the person was sentenced to state prison, that tool, not the county roster, is the right place to check.

Parole adds another layer. The State Parole Board page links the prison and sex offender searches and gives a contact for parole records. The image below shows the State Parole Board offender search page.

Here is the State Parole Board offender search, which ties together state custody, parole, and the registry.
